Deciding to let your property because you cannot sell it is not an easy option and should not be undertaken lightly, and that is why a new book has been launched to help accidental landlords in this country successfully let out their homes.
The publication of The Accidental Landlord: The Keys To Letting Out Your Own Property With Complete Peace Of Mind, is a 288-page guide authored by letting agent Daniel Lees and his wife, Martina Lees, a property journalist.
The couple became accidental landlords when they married in 2008 and rented out Daniel’s former flat to live elsewhere in southwest London.
“We were surprised at how little help there was for people like us,” said Martina.
The Accidental Landlord helps property owners navigate the 140-plus laws on letting, tax changes as well as deal with wider market conditions.
Daniel commented: “The rental market has become more expensive, regulated and taxed than ever amid the government’s attempts to deal with the housing crisis – and it will probably get even tougher.
“Our book offers peace of mind to owners who end up letting out their homes without having bought them as intentional buy-to-let investments.”
Matt Hutchinson, director of the flatshare website Spareroom.co.uk, welcomed The Accidental Landlord as “an invaluable guide to help accidental landlords be confident, knowledgeable and professional landlords, which is good news for them, and great news for their tenants”.
Johnny Morris, research director at Countrywide estate agents, called the book “a charming read and essential guide for new investors”.
The Accidental Landlord: The Keys To Letting Out Your Own Property With Complete Peace Of Mind is available in book shops and on Amazon at £12.99 from November 9. Published by Rethink Press; accidental landlord.info
