Woman denies trying to kill her landlord

A woman in Cutteslowe, north Oxford, has pleaded not guilty to one count of attempted murder against her landlord. 

A jury at Oxford Crown Court heard that Stacey Bilverstone stabbed her landlord, Andrew Davis, in the neck. 

Bilverstone claims that she was acting in self defence on 25 June this year outside the property they shared in Kendall Crescent, Cutteslowe, Oxford.  

But the prosecutor Charles Ward-Jackson told the court that Davis “felt sorry” for Bilverstone, 42, who, in his opinion, had become “a bit of a nightmare flat mate”.

Ward-Jackson said things kicked off when Bilverstone arrived home in a bad mood in June and attacked Davis and started strangling him.

She allegedly then took hold of a kitchen knife and chased him around a parked car before stabbing him in the neck and once in the throat, severing minor arteries.

Bilverstone denies attempting to murder Davis, instead her defence claimed during the trial that she acted to protect herself and that the landlord had subjected her to a campaign of abuse in the run-up to that night, including claims by the defendant that the landlord beat her and kept her confined in the flat, and even once raped her. 

Bilverstone’s trial has now concluded with Judge Ian Pringle summing up the cases of the prosecution and defence before sending jurors out to deliberate.
