New Labour leader Keir Starmer finalised his shadow cabinet appointments yesterday, with Thangam Debbonaire securing the role of shadow housing secretary.
Debbonaire, the MP for Bristol West, previously held posts as shadow arts and culture minister, and shadow Brexit minister.
She has replaced John Healey who has moved to the role of shadow defence decretary.
Other key shadow cabinet appointments yesterday included David Lammy as shadow justice secretary, Ed Miliband as shadow business secretary, and Rebecca Long-Bailey as shadow education secretary.
Commenting on the new appointments, Starmer said: “I’m proud to have appointed a shadow cabinet that showcases the breadth, depth and talents of the Labour Party.
“This is a new team that will be relentlessly focused on acting in the national interest to respond to the coronavirus pandemic and rebuilding Labour so that it can win the next election.”
