A landlord has admitted voyeurism and has been handed a suspended prison sentence and placed on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.
The landlord - who cannot be named for legal reasons - had a property in Peterborough in which he installed a secret camera disguised as a bedroom clock to spy on his teenage tenant.
Cambridge News reports that the 17-year-old female tenant stayed in a room in the landlord’s home following a post she placed on social media.
Detective Constable Pete Wise, who investigated, told a court case last week: “The details of this case are what many would describe as nothing short of a nightmare.”
The landlord paid the girl compliments, requested that she kiss him, and asked her to wear his wife’s clothes. On one occasion he offered her £200 to sleep with him.
The teenager discovered the secret filming and left the house, with the camera and the landlord’s tablet on which she found evidence of his filming, later passing them to the police.
The man denied filming in his tenant’s bedroom and allegations that he had offered her cash for sex.
He was sentenced to 16 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, and was handed a four-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order as well as being placed on the Sex Offenders Register for 10 years.
