Digital challenger bank Tandem has launched a new platform that allows people to check the EPCs of their or other properties, as well as giving estimated costs of energy efficiency improvements.
Called Tandem Marketplace the platform is described by the bank as “a consumer-focused hub which provides key information and resources to help promote greener living.”
It wants Tandem Marketplace to give people the information they need to retrofit their homes, with fees earned for the bank by connecting users with “home improvement partners.”
Tandem claims that around 19m Britons are unaware, uninformed, unwilling or unsupported on how to approach greener living.
The marketplace platform will include information about green home improvement from solar panels to boiler upgrades, and smart technology including blogs with advice on greener choices, guest content from industry experts, and access to the bank’s products including green home improvement lending.
The EPC checker is complemented by data on home improvements such as the cost of a domestic solar panel system - approximately £5,500.
The bank’s marketing officer Georgina Whalley says: “We’re in the middle of a climate crisis and a cost-of-living crisis. People shouldn’t have to choose between heating and eating. This is why we have created our Marketplace, people need more information and support to make greener choices.
“Our new Marketplace starts to fill this gap and provides a dedicated resource to help people take action and ultimately save money on energy bills. I’m delighted that it’s now live, but equally excited to continue to develop how Tandem supports everyday people with banking for a greener future.”
