Former Tory Leader to face landlords at summer event

Former Conservative leader Iain Duncan-Smith is to address landlords at an event this summer.

The MP - 70 next week - was leader of his party between 2001 and 2003, at which time he lost a vote of confidence triggered by criticism of his leadership style and the so-called Betsygate scandal. This involved allegations over payments to his wife Betsy, who was employed as his diary secretary.

Now he is addressing the National Landlord Investment Show in London in July.

Promotion for the show says: “With the announcement of a General Election date imminent and a Labour Government promising a 'slew of amendments' to the Renters Reform Bill in the House of Lords, the second half of 2024 could be a bumpy ride for the Private Rented Sector.

“It has been speculated that we could see an election called as early as May 2024. In which case, the Bill is unlikely to have passed into legislation, and with many predicting a Labour landslide, could spell more change than anticipated for the sector.

“Unfortunately, we don’t have a crystal ball and the only thing we know for sure is that UK elections can yield wildly unexpected results. Join us at Old Billingsgate in London on July 3rd to hear what both political parties have to say on the matter.”

You can register for the show, free of charge, here.
