Council urges private tenants to apply for energy grants

A council is allowing eligible private households - including renters - to apply for grants to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

Caerphilly council is encouraging residents whose homes have solid fuel (coal) fires, back boilers or single glazed windows to apply for help to make their home warmer.

To be eligible for an energy crisis grant applicants must be an owner occupier or private sector tenant, living in the property for at least 12 months.

They must have a household combined gross income of £31,000 or less, or have a member of the household deemed as vulnerable to the effects of living in a cold property.

Homes must be considered energy inefficient by the council, and privately rented properties must be compliant with all current regulations and have an energy rating of D or E.

For more information and to check eligibility contact the council’s Private Sector Housing team on 01443 811378 or email privatesectorhousing@caerphilly.gov.uk
